Give Us Your Eyes, Lord...

Have you ever been wrong about someone? I mean really wrong? Maybe you assume they act (or don't act) in a certain way because of deficiencies in their character, personality, etc. Maybe you treat them with contempt, internally judging them, externally putting them down. Gosh, I know I've done it. Time and again, I continue to scrutinize my brothers and sisters. Then there comes a moment like today, where the noise all around me suddenly disappeared, and I was left with the words someone told me hanging thick in the air like tree branches. I couldn't cut them down without watching them fall. The words I heard pierced my heart. Maybe it's happened to you. You learn something about someone that you never expected--something in their past that haunts them, a terrible ordeal they've been through, or some other kind of shocking revelation. It's then that compassion wells up in you, and God's conviction cuts like a knife, wounding and at the same time teaching your heart what love really is. Love is messy. It's uncomfortable. It takes the good with the bad, the ugly with the beautiful. It doesn't always come all cleaned up with roses at your doorstep. Often it's sloppy and painful, but it's altogether the truest, realest, most Christ-like thing on the earth. So try, try with all your might to take a step back from the assumptions and presuppositions you place on the people around you, and do your best to see them how God sees them. Make Brandon Heath's song, "Give Me Your Eyes" your prayer this month. Ask God to let you see through His eyes, to feel what He feels for His children, and just watch what you learn, and see how your life is transformed.

Love,
Francesca

"Give me your eyes for just one second, give me your eyes so I can see everything that I've been missing, give me your love for humanity. Give me your arms for the broken hearted, the ones that are far beyond my reach. Give me your heart for the ones forgotten, give me your eyes so I can see."
- Brandon Heath

This is one of the most

This is one of the most beautiful articles I have read in a long time now! Congrats! A similar sermon I heard from a very kind and warm person :Aaron DelSignore. He is truly inspiring and generous, he also does charity. You Francesca should speak more often to the youth..make them understand what you feel, not only through songs, I'm sure they will enjoy it.

I don't think I could have said it better myself

It's things like this that make me base my entire life on the verse of scripture that defines love and what it truly is, 1st Corinthians Chapter 13. We misunderstand people all the time. Against the urging of that still small voice inside, we pass our judgements and make assumptions about people, even when they simply pass us by on the street. I've had my fair share of lessons that love is a painful thing sometimes. It hurts sometimes because it ends up being the people we care about the most that we hurt the worst at times. It works the same way with the greatest of love. We love God so much, but we find ourselves slipping back into sin sometimes.

But yes, I actually learned a lesson in this recently, with a friend of mine who pointed out something in my past that I did that hurt him deeply. I'm very empathetic, so when I cut someone deep, who is close to me, it gets to me just as much when hindsight comes in 20/20 and I see what I have done. I'm still actually recoiling from it, but seeing this is quite an encouragement. It's good to read the words of a wise Christian woman.

Francesca here

Joshua,

I'm glad my journal ministered to you! It's so true that we all misunderstand people sometimes. But thank God for His grace! We all need to pray that He would give us His eyes to see those around us. Amen!

hi

hello

Nice to have met you

Hello, Frannie. This is Michele from 'Frap with Francesca with the JoyFM'. It was really great to have met you today and I had a great time! Of course I started thinking of all kinds of questions on my drive home (I just hate when that happens:)! I wish we could have had more time to talk (I apologize for being so quiet).

I totally get what you mean about misjudging people, making assumptions, etc. I actually did that with my husband before we started dating. I found out he was very different from what I thought! A lot of the incorrect assumptions I've made have been kept inside of my thoughts (praise be to God - oh the mishaps that have followed when they have been said aloud). That is my favorite song of Brandon's (though I haven't heard a lot of them) and it's so true! The only way we can truly have compassion on the lost (or even those who aren't) is by seeing them through the eyes of God. Well, have a blessed day and a safe trip home. God Bless! See you at WinterJam!

Michele from Gainesville:)
